About This Blog

WELCOME!

I am glad you are here. As of January 2012, I am celebrating almost 4500 visits to this blog. I feel touched and honored that people have found their way to these words. I hope you enjoy your time here. You are the reason this writing exists and I thank you for visiting.

My subject is emotional and spiritual recovery  from various life challenges. I have a particular interest in troubled relationships, addictive behaviors, codependency and coping with life transitions.

My background is in journalism, not in psychology–unless you count many enlightening hours spent in Swedish armchairs in the offices of kindly therapists, and a bookshelf overflowing with self-help and spiritual writings.

What I can share with you are my own experiences recovering from heartbreak, addiction, and other tests of my strength and soul, as well as more general observations about life, love, loss and recovery.

I have experienced blessed marriage and dismal divorce, been a lovely trophy and a zaftig lonely mess, felt on top of my romance game, and experienced the squirming agony of painful blunders.  I have howled at the stars in joy and desolation, and tried to escape my pain with various addictions before realizing that I had to surrender to my truth, not run from it.

In spite of everything I’ve been through, I remain hopeful. I believe one can recover from all sorts of sorrows and live serenely ever after.  My goal is to amuse, empathize and comfort, and maybe offer some simple wisdom on subjects that continue to fascinate and baffle me. If you are suffering or recovering from love, or other tests of the heart, allow me to be a friend.

The core of this blog is a group of short essays on the ups, downs and oddities of daily life, love and recovery. It’s a good place to start if you would like to explore further. I have also included a few pieces describing inspiring encounters with nature from the perspective of a city dweller. Recently I added a Recovery Journal, which will focus specifically on addiction. Occasionally I post photo essays of subjects I find inspiring or uplifting. I hope you enjoy these images, as well as the links and music links you will find. New categories will follow.

I try to post frequently. I appreciate comments, too. If you like the essays please feel free to share them with friends on Twitter, Facebook and other social media. I hope you enjoy my blog and revisit often!

Dear Elizabeth, I love you in the here and now, too. Thank you for visiting my cyber space ship. It’s an empty nest venture…I am hoping that my heart and brain will not empty out along with my little brick house. I appreciate your kind response. Your devoted little sis, M.E.

I don’t know how I got here. I’m very glad I did, it’s restful and considered.
